VEU air conditioning — two clear whole-home pathways
For homes replacing ducted gas heating, the two main layouts we assess are ducted reverse cycle and multi-split. We compare comfort, airflow, outdoor space, electrical capacity, access and the current VEU activity before recommending one.

Which VEU air-conditioning system suits your home?
The answer depends on roof or underfloor access, existing duct condition, outdoor-unit locations, room-by-room use, noise, switchboard capacity and how independently you want to control different areas.

Ducted gas heater → Ducted reverse cycle
A central indoor unit distributes conditioned air through designed ductwork. Best where the building has suitable space for a concealed system and balanced air distribution.

Ducted gas heater → Multi-split
Multiple indoor units operate from compatible outdoor equipment, giving room-by-room control without a full ducted air-distribution system. We determine whether one multi-head outdoor unit or another compliant configuration best suits the property.

The final discount depends on the existing equipment, approved replacement product, capacity, installation date and current VEU rules.
| Existing system | Upgrade example | Indicative discount |
|---|---|---|
| Ducted gas heater | Multi-split: 1 × 10 kW outdoor unit | Up to $2,940 |
| Ducted gas heater | 10 / 16 / 22.4 kW ducted reverse cycle | Up to $2,520 / $4,200 / $5,530 |
| Non-ducted room gas heater | 3–9 kW efficient reverse-cycle AC | $630–$1,610 |
| Existing non-ducted reverse-cycle AC | 3–9 kW efficient reverse-cycle AC | $210 |
Indicative examples only. We confirm the eligible activity and approved equipment before quoting the rebate component.
Rebate eligibility does not replace HVAC design
A system can be eligible for a VEU activity and still be the wrong design for the home. We size and lay out the proposed system around actual comfort requirements and installation conditions.

2026
VEU heating & cooling rules are changing
Victoria has announced changes from 30 September 2026, including a $3,000 minimum co-payment (including GST) for ducted reverse-cycle and multi-split systems with cooling capacity of 10 kW or more, plus a residential multi-split incentive cap. We confirm the rules and rebate value that apply on the date of your installation.
